Jeetendra Mishra, who headed the Western Air Command during Operation Sindoor, was appointed the first CEO of the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust on Wednesday (September 2, 2026), officials said. Iranian officials said one of the U.S. strikes on the country overnight struck a wedding party, leaving at least five people dead and dozens wounded. India will decide on the renewal of the 1996 Ganga Water Treaty while keeping Bihar’s interests in consideration, stated External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in a recent letter to Janata Dal (U) MP Sanjay Jha, who had called upon the government not to renew the treaty, asserting that it had “negatively impacted” the State. Supreme Court seeks explanation from government on IPS deputation in CAPFs

Nepal Floods: Death toll near 1,250 as more than 4,000 still missing

The death toll has surged to 1,222 as more bodies were recovered from eight districts affected by the flood, while 4,875 people remain missing a week after the floods devastated several towns and villages in the country, according to Nepal Police. Security forces have recovered 348 dead bodies from Chitawan district, 218 from Nawalparasi East, 208 from Nawalparasi West, and 155 from Nuwakot. Similarly, 127 bodies were recovered from Rasuwa, 69 from Gorkha, 60 from Dhading and 38 from Tanahu, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.

Supreme Court orders oversight by AG, SG in BCI policy decisions ahead of polls

The Supreme Court on Wednesday (September 2, 2026) directed the Bar Council of India (BCI) under its “pro-tem” chairperson Manan Kumar Mishra to consult the country’s top law officers, the Attorney General and the Solicitor General, before taking any policy decisions ahead of elections to the apex lawyers’ body. The hearing before a three-judge Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant saw petitioners, including young lawyers, raise allegations, including the formation of the BCI Pearl First Trust in 2020 in which Mr. Mishra and other BCI office-bearers are “permanent managing trustees”; a tie-up between the Trust and the Goa government to set up a university on 56 acres of land in the State; “jolting” expenditures on felicitations “running into crores”; and an extension of the tenure of BCI chairperson/vice-chairperson to five years.

Maternity leave cannot lead to loss of role or career prospects: Delhi HC

The Delhi High Court has ruled that a woman returning from maternity leave at a private company is ordinarily entitled to resume her previous position and cannot be placed at a professional disadvantage by reducing her responsibilities, managerial authority or prospects of career advancement. Justice Sachin Datta, in the August 31 judgment, held that the protection under Section 12 of the Maternity Benefit Act is not limited to safeguarding continuity of employment or wages.

Kuki MLAs attend Manipur Assembly session for first time since ethnic strife
