Calcutta High Court asks ECI to file affidavit on PIL questioning SIR on basis of 2002 voters’ list
The Calcutta High Court on Thursday (November 6, 2025) asked the Election Commission of India (ECI) to state its position by filing an affidavit on a PIL questioning why the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was being done on the basis of the 2002 voters’ list. The ECI is holding SIR in 12 States, including in West Bengal, where Assembly elections are due to be held before mid-2026. The commission submitted before the court that the petition is “not maintainable”.
Airlines report ‘severe’ spoofing over Delhi for seven days, govt officials say they are enquiring
Aircraft flying over Delhi have been experiencing “severe” GPS spoofing over the past week, causing false navigation data such as incorrect aircraft positions and misleading terrain warnings, according to pilots and air traffic control sources. “The DGCA is seized of the matter,” a top government official said, adding that they were enquiring into the incidents.
Record 64.66% voting in first phase of Bihar polls
Bihar recorded its “highest-ever” voter turnout as the first phase of the Assembly election ended on Thursday with 64.66% votes polled. In this phase, 121 Assembly constituencies in 18 districts went to the polls with a total electorate of over 3.75 crore. The Election Commission of India (EC) said voting was peaceful.
India to question citizens who worked in Myanmar cyberscam centres
Indian citizens who worked in the cyberscam compounds of Myanmar will be “questioned” about their activities during their employment period, official sources said on Thursday (November 6, 2025) as India brought back 270 nationals who had earlier taken refuge in Thailand after fleeing the scam centres of Myawaddy where the Myanmar military carried out operations in the last week of October.
Two Census apps, test portal for self-enumeration go live
The Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India launched two mobile applications this week in preparation for the trial phase of the country’s first digital Population Census in 2027. The pre-test for the first phase, House Listing and Housing Operations (HLO), where a total of 30 questions on housing amenities will be asked, will be held in select areas across the country from November 10 to 30.
Right to vote is different from freedom of voting, Centre tells Supreme Court
The Supreme Court on Thursday (November 6, 2025) is scheduled to examine the Centre’s argument that the ‘right to vote’ in an election is different from the ‘freedom of voting’, and while one is a mere statutory right the second is a part of the fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression. The Centre was responding to a petition seeking to declare Section 53(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 and Rule 11 read with Forms 21 and 21B of the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961, which apply to ‘uncontested elections’, ultra vires the Constitution for violating freedom of speech and expression under Article 19(1)(a).
ISRO wants to transfer 50% of PSLV development to industry consortium, says V. Narayanan

India could generate 11 million tonnes of solar waste by 2047: Study
India is projected to generate about 11 million tonnes of solar waste by 2047, largely from crystalline-silicon modules, according to two studies published on Thursday (November 6, 2025). Managing this waste would require nearly 300 recycling plants across the country and an investment of around ₹4,200 crore, said the studies by Delhi-based think tank Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW).
