The Supreme Court of India has reasoned in a judgment that the use of four-letter expletives and their variations may be “abusive, unpalatable or uncivil”, but does not qualify as ‘obscene’ in law. “Use of mere swear words, profanities and vulgar expletives, however distasteful or uncivil they may be, cannot be equated with obscenity... Words which are merely vulgar or abusive may evoke a feeling of disgust, revulsion or shock, but that by itself does not make them obscene in law,” the court said.

Maharashtra panel to study ST benefits after Christian conversion allegations

The State government has formed a 27-member committee of legislators from Scheduled Tribes to examine the legal framework for benefits available to ST individuals after religious conversion. The move follows allegations raised in the Assembly regarding Christian missionaries in Nandurbar district’s Navapur taluka. The decision originates from an attention notice (No. 1773) moved by Anupbhaiyya Agrawal and other members during the 2025 monsoon session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. The notice stated that Christian religious leaders, missionaries, and their institutions in Navapur taluka were using inducements to compel tribals and non-tribals to convert.

South Africa says radioactive contamination at nuclear plant was minor

Police action forces end to tribal protest against MP’s Ken-Betwa project after 15 days

The Madhya Pradesh Police on Sunday (July 19, 2026) morning cleared the site where several tribals have been protesting against the Ken-Betwa river link project and other irrigation projects in Chhatarpur district, and took the protest leader Amit Bhatnagar, who has been on a hunger strike for 14 days, to a hospital.

10 feared dead, houses damaged in flash floods in J&K

Madhya Pradesh Cabinet approves UCC draft bill for presentation in State Assembly
