Delhi hotel fire: Hotel building owner arrested after Malviya Nagar fire kills 21

Delhi Police has arrested Lavkesh Bajaj, owner of the hotel building in Malviya Nagar where a devastating fire killed 21 people on Wednesday (June 3, 2026), officials said. Mr. Bajaj was arrested hours after the blaze ripped through the Flourish Stay B&B in the congested Hauz Rani area in south Delhi. Police had earlier issued a look-out circular (LOC) against Mr. Bajaj and his wife, and launched an operation to trace them.

Iran’s Foreign Minister warns any attack on Beirut will trigger ‘full-scale resumption of war’

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned on Wednesday (June 3, 2026) that any attack on Beirut would trigger a “full-scale resumption” of the West Asia war, as Israel pressed its campaign against Lebanese militant group Hezbollah. Iran has repeatedly insisted that any deal to end the wider West Asia war — which its ally Hezbollah joined on March 2 — must also halt the fighting in Lebanon.

Nepal is a priority partner, says Modi after meeting RSP chief

Nepal’s ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chairperson Rabi Lamichanne on Wednesday (June 3, 2026) met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who called the neighbouring country a “priority partner”. The meeting came a day after Mr. Lamichhane called on External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Home Minister Amit Shah and discussed development and security partnerships between the two countries. The meetings came even as official sources here informed that Nepal’s Foreign Minister, Shisir Khanal, is expected to arrive in India this week.

Cockroach Janta Party zeroes in on Pradhan resignation demand, sets protest for June 6

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) will hold a protest on June 6 at Jantar Mantar in the capital, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the movement’s spokespersons said at its first press conference on Wednesday (June 3, 2026). “We seek minimum accountability from this system where rot has set in,” said spokesperson Saurav Das. Mr. Pradhan has taken flak in recent days due to the paper leaks and cancellation of NEET-UG, the medical entrance examination, and problems with the Central Board of Secondary Education’s new on-screen marking evaluation system for the Class 12 examination.

Indian national killed in attack on Kuwait airport

An Indian national was killed in an attack that targeted Kuwait International Airport, officials said on Wednesday. In a post on X, the Embassy of India in Kuwait expressed its “deepest condolences at the tragic demise of an Indian national due to an attack on the airport in Kuwait today”. It said the mission is “closely coordinating” with the Kuwaiti authorities to render all possible support and assistance to the bereaved family as well as those injured in the incident.

Russia delivers fourth squadron of AI-enabled S-400 air defence system

India has received the fourth squadron of the Russia-made S-400 air defence system, strengthening the country’s long-range air defence network. The system arrived from Russia as scheduled in May, and is expected to be deployed in an operational area shortly, sources in the defence sector said. The delivery is part of a $5.43 billion agreement signed between India and Russia in 2018 for the acquisition of five S-400 regimental systems. Three S-400 squadrons have already been inducted into service; the fourth has now arrived, following delays linked to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Nepal National Assembly meeting adjourned over PM Balen’s remarks over border issues

The Upper House of Nepal’s Parliament was adjourned on Wednesday (June 3, 2026) after opposition lawmakers continued their protest against Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s remarks about the Himalayan nation’s border issues with India. National Assembly chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal adjourned the House until 1:15 p.m. on June 9, according to the Parliament Secretariat. Parliament proceedings have been obstructed, leading to adjournments, since Mr. Shah, who is popularly known as Balen, said on Sunday (May 31, 2026) that “Not only India, but Nepal has also encroached territories of India at many places”. His comments sparked controversy.

U.S. sanctions alleged rebel commanders in DR Congo

The United States has imposed sanctions on alleged intelligence leaders of two key rebel groups in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where fighting has been raging in the east of the country. The sanctions target Gustave Kubwayo, alleged to be the commander of a Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), and John Imani Nzenze, alleged to be the March 23 (M23) commander and chief of intelligence, the U.S. Treasury said in a statement on Tuesday.

Annamalai quits BJP, to start new political ‘movement’

Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai has quit the party and is expected to start a “movement” that would eventually be converted into a regional political party. Sources told The Hindu on Wednesday (June 3, 2026) that Mr. Annamalai submitted his resignation letter to the party leadership on Tuesday (June 2) and had meetings with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president Nitin Nabin, and national general secretary of the BJP B.L. Santhosh.

Jairam Ramesh presses Centre over Great Nicobar clearances

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh has renewed his objections to the Great Nicobar Island Project in a June 3 letter replying to Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav’s response of May 27. Mr. Ramesh said Mr. Yadav’s reply effectively conceded that the project’s environmental clearance was not based on comprehensive, three-season primary data but on a “single seasonal cycle.” He went further, contending that the underlying institutional studies rested on baseline surveys gathered over only a few weeks, and that historical secondary data held by bodies such as the Zoological Survey of India and the Wildlife Institute of India could not substitute for site-specific primary assessment.

Abhishek Banerjee moves Calcutta HC against signature forgery allegations

Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee sought permission to file a petition in the Calcutta High Court seeking protection against any coercive action by the CID over it probe with relation to the signature forgery allegations against him. The court has granted him permission. The matter may be heard later this week. The legal team representing TMC has appealed the court challenging the case. Mr. Banerjee’s counsel reportedly argued that the senior TMC leader had no connection to the case and sought protection from any coercive action against him.

Supreme Court forms high-powered expert panel to re-examine Aravalli definition

The Supreme Court has constituted a high-powered committee to conduct an independent review of the Centre’s report on the definition and delineation of the Aravalli hill range and directed the panel to address what it described as “critical ambiguities” in the findings. The committee headed by Kanchan Devi, Director General of the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), has been directed to submit a comprehensive report by August 31, 2026.

Principle, not politics: Pawan Kalyan on his backing for Telangana

In a post on X, Jana Sena chief and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan says his support for Telangana statehood sprang from conviction not politics, and traces it to his 2009 stand alongside Gaddar. In a post on X on Wednesday (June 3, 2026), Mr. Pawan Kalyan said his commitment to Telangana statehood “is not something that began recently”. He recalled that in 2009, while leading the Yuva Rajyam youth wing of the Praja Rajyam Party, he took part in the Telangana Samajika Nyaya Sabha alongside Osmania University student leaders and Gaddar.
