NDA takes Bihar by storm
Beating the anti-incumbency factor in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar led the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to a huge win in the State Assembly election on Friday (November 14, 2025), with the ruling coalition’s seat tally crossing 200 in the 243-strong legislature. Mr. Kumar’s Mahila Rojgar Yojana, under which ₹10,000 was given to around 1.25 crore women over the last two months, seemed to have played an important role in his victory.
Massive explosion inside J&K police station leaves 8 injured
At least eight persons were injured, three of them critically, in a massive explosion inside the Nowgam police station in Srinagar on Friday night (November 14, 2025), officials said. The Jammu and Kashmir police had recently unearthed an inter-State terror module and seized around 2,900 kg of explosives, including ammonium nitrate, in raids conducted in different States across the country.
Congress blames SIR, ‘vote chori’ after worst performance in Bihar since 2010
The collapse of the mahagathbandhan, the Opposition grand alliance, in the Bihar Assembly election on Friday (November 14, 2025) prompted Congress leaders to pin the blame on alleged ‘vote chori (theft)’ and the special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in the State. Delhi car blast accused Umar Nabi’s house demolished in Pulwama

Russia’s massive attack on Kyiv kills four, injures 27
Four people were killed after Russia unleashed a massive combined attack on Kyiv early Friday (November 14, 2025), sparking fires and scattering debris across many districts of the capital, Ukrainian authorities said. At least 27 people were injured as emergency crews responded to multiple strikes, said Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration. At least 430 drones and 18 missiles were used in the attack across the country, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
V. Maitreyan, the first Brahmin to hold organisational post in DMK
The appointment of Dr. V. Maitreyan as vice-president of the DMK’s Educators’ Wing has made him perhaps the first Brahmin to hold an organisational post in the Dravidian party. The former Rajya Sabha MP had joined the DMK in August this year. He is among a small number of well-known Brahmins who have chosen to support or join a party traditionally associated with atheism and anti-Brahminism positions. Before Maitreyan, the notable exception was V.P. Raman, who had served as Advocate-General of Tamil Nadu during the AIADMK regime under Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran. Raman was a member of the DMK for four years from 1957.
Iran seizes tanker in Strait of Hormuz, U.S. official says; tensions remain high in region
Iran seized a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker as it travelled through the narrow Strait of Hormuz on Friday (November 14, 2025), a U.S. official said, turning the ship into Iranian territorial waters in the first-such interdiction in months in the strategic waterway. Iran did not immediately acknowledge the seizure, though it comes as Tehran has been increasingly warning it can strike back after facing a 12-day war in June with Israel that saw the US strike Iranian nuclear sites.
India, Canada strengthen economic ties on critical minerals, trade and investment
India and Canada agreed to bolster long-term supply chain partnerships in critical minerals and expand investment and trade opportunities, the two countries said in a joint statement. WPI inflation falls to (-)1.21% in October on GST cut, favourable base
Wholesale price inflation (WPI) fell to (-) 1 .21% in October, driven by a decline in prices of food articles like pulses and vegetables, as well as lower fuel and manufactured items’ prices, government data showed on Friday (November 14, 2025). WPI-based inflation was 0.13% in September and 2.75% in October last year.
