Bangladesh seeks Hasina’s extradition, sends letter

Days after deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received a death sentence at the International Crimes Tribunal in Dhaka, the interim government of Bangladesh has sent a letter to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs seeking her extradition, said the Foreign Affairs Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government, Touhid Hossein, on Sunday (November 23, 2025). Mr. Hossein met reporters in the evening at his office and informed that the letter carrying details of the judgment on Ms. Hasina’s involvement in the crackdown against unarmed protesters in July-August 2024 has been sent to India. The Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi is yet to respond on the matter.

U.S. tech majors oppose Indian telcos’ demand to allocate spectrum in 6 GHz band for mobile services

U.S. tech majors Apple, Amazon, Cisco, Meta, HP, and Intel Corporation have jointly opposed Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea’s demand to allocate spectrum in the 6 gigahertz (GHz) band for mobile services. The tech majors sought the entire 6GHz band to be allocated for Wi-Fi services instead. In a joint response to telecom regulator TRAI’s consultation paper for the next round of spectrum auction, the U.S. technology giants have said the technical and commercial readiness in the 6 GHz band is not established for mobile services.

Protesters demand clean air amid worsening pollution in New Delhi; 5 detained

Five persons were detained on Sunday (November 23, 2025) when a group of 50-60 protesters gathered at India Gate to highlight Delhi’s worsening air quality and demand action against the pollution crisis. The protest began around 4 p.m. and continued for more than two hours despite repeated interventions and forceful dispersal attempts by the police. Personnel from the local police station, along with the CRPF’s Rapid Action Force, were deployed in large numbers around the site. The Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi has predicted that the Capital will remain in the ‘very poor’ category between November 24 and 25.

Justice Surya Kant to take oath as 53rd Chief Justice of India today

Justice Surya Kant, who has been part of several landmark verdicts and orders on abrogation of Article 370 removing Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, Bihar electoral rolls revision and Pegasus spyware case, will on Monday (November 24, 2025) take oath as the 53rd Chief Justice of India. He will succeed Justice B.R. Gavai. Justice Kant was appointed as the next CJI on October 30 and will remain in the post for nearly 15 months. He will demit office on February 9, 2027 on attaining the age of 65 years.

Sindh will always be a part of India’s civilisational heritage, says Rajnath

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday (November 23, 2025) asserted that while Sindh is no longer part of India geographically, it remains an integral part of India’s civilisational heritage. Speaking at a community event, he said, “Today, the land of Sindh may not be a part of India, but civilisationally, Sindh will always be a part of India. And as far as land is concerned, borders can change. Who knows, tomorrow Sindh may return to India again.” Mr. Singh reiterated that people of Sindhi origin would “always remain our own, no matter where they live.”

Presidential Reference opinion does not overrule a judgment, says Justice Gavai

Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai on Sunday (November 23, 2025) said the 2025 Presidential Reference opinion against tying Governors to timelines was not intended to shift the burden back on States to run pillar-to-post to get their recalcitrant Governors to pass pending Bills on time. “If the Constitution does not provide for a timeline, we [judiciary] cannot read something that is not there. It is for the Parliament to do that,” CJI Gavai, who is retiring on November 23, said in a media interaction. He explained that an opinion given in a Presidential Reference did not overrule a judgment but only clarified the law.

Supreme Court to hear on November 24 plea challenging climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s detention

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday (November 24, 2025) a plea filed by Sonam Wangchuk’s wife which termed the climate activist’s detention under the stringent National Security Act as illegal and an arbitrary exercise violating his fundamental rights. The top court had on October 29 sought response of the Centre and the Ladakh administration on the amended plea of Mr. Wangchuk’s wife Gitanjali J. Angmo. Mr. Wangchuk was detained under the National Security Act (NSA) on September 26, two days after violent protests demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule status for Ladakh left four people dead and 90 injured in the Union Territory. The government had accused him of inciting the violence.

Experts warn against premature conclusion about Tejas crash

The recent crash of an Indian Air Force (IAF) Tejas fighter aircraft at the Dubai air show has triggered a wave of speculation on social media, with many users terming the mishap a setback for India’s flagship defence export platform. India, Italy announce joint initiative for co-op in combating financing of terrorism as PM Modi meets Meloni

India and Italy on Sunday (November 23, 2025) announced a joint initiative for cooperation in combating financing of terrorism, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni in Johannesburg and discussed ways to bolster bilateral ties in several areas, including trade, defence and security. During the meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Johannesburg, the two leaders adopted the India-Italy Joint Initiative to Counter Financing of Terrorism, which reiterates their common resolve to fight terrorism.Prime Minister Meloni expressed solidarity with India on the terror incident in Delhi and reiterated Italy’s strong commitment to working together to combat the scourge of terrorism.

Israel says killed Hezbollah chief of staff in Beirut strike

Israel said it killed Hezbollah’s chief of staff in an air strike on Lebanon’s capital on Sunday (November 23, 2025), hitting an apartment building in an operation the militant group said crossed a red line. Lebanon’s Health Ministry said the attack in Beirut, which came after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed Israel would “do everything necessary” to prevent the pro-Iran movement from regrouping, killed five people and wounded 28 more. In a statement shortly after the strike, the Israeli military said it had “eliminated the terrorist Haytham Ali Tabatabai, Hezbollah’s chief of general staff”.

50 children kidnapped from Nigerian Catholic school escape captivity

Fifty of the more than 300 children snatched by gunmen from a Catholic school in Nigeria have escaped their captors, a Christian group said on Sunday (November 23, 2025). Gunmen on Friday (November 21, 2025) raided St Mary’s co-education school in Niger state, taking 303 children and 12 teachers in one of the largest mass kidnappings in Nigeria. The abduction came days after gunmen stormed a secondary school in neighbouring Kebbi state, abducting 25 girls.

Rubio says Ukraine meeting in Geneva ‘probably best so far’

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Sunday (November 23, 2025) that he had made good progress in talks about a draft U.S. plan to end the war in Ukraine as he met with a Ukrainian delegation in Geneva. “...I think the takeaway from it is, I think this is a very, very meaningful, I would say, probably best meeting and day we’ve had so far in this entire process, going back to when we first came to office in January,” Mr. Rubio told reporters. Andriy Yermak, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Chief of Staff, said the meeting had been “a very productive first session with the distinguished American delegation”.

Tejas crash at Dubai Air Show: Tributes paid to Wing Commander Namansh Syal at Sulur Air Force Station

Mortal remains of Wing Commander Namansh Syal, who tragically lost his life in a Tejas aircraft crash during the Dubai Air Show, was brought to the Air Force Station, Sulur near Coimbatore on Sunday (November 23, 2025) morning.
