Enumeration forms distributed to 73% voters in Phase 2 of SIR, says ECI

A week since the distribution of enumeration forms for the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 12 States began, the forms have been distributed to around 73% voters whose names are present in the current voter lists, the Election Commission of India (EC) said on Wednesday. A total of 37,05,68,109 enumeration forms have been distributed in the 12 States and Union Territories — Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Goa, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Puducherry.

Centre describes explosion in Delhi as ‘terrorist incident’, promises justice

Supreme Court orders immediate release of Delhi lawyer arrested by Haryana STF in murder case

The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the immediate release of Delhi-based advocate Vikram Singh, who was arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) of Gurugram Police in connection with a murder case. A Bench comprising Chief Justice B.R. Gavai and Justices K. Vinod Chandran and N.V. Anjaria passed the order after hearing senior advocate Vikas Singh, who appeared for the lawyer. The Court directed that Mr. Vikram Singh be released forthwith on furnishing a bail bond of ₹10,000, and listed the matter for further hearing next Wednesday (November 19).

Afghanistan‘s economic recovery is buckling as nine in 10 households are forced to skip meals, sell belongings or take on debt to survive, the United Nations said on Wednesday, warning that mass returns are exacerbating the country’s worst crisis since the Taliban returned to power. A United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) report said nearly one in 10 overseas Afghans has been forced back home, with more than 4.5 million returnees since 2023, mainly from Iran and Pakistan, swelling the population by 10%. On top of that, earthquakes, floods and drought have destroyed 8,000 homes and strained public services “beyond their limits.”
