Balendra Shah takes oath as Nepal’s Prime Minister
Balendra Shah, popularly known as Balen, on Friday (March 27, 2026) became Nepal’s new Prime Minister, the youngest in the country’s recent political history. The 35-year-old rapper-turned-politician was sworn in by President Ram Chandra Poudel at a ceremony at the presidential palace in Kathmandu, marking the end of the transition triggered by last September’s Gen Z protests, which overthrew the K.P. Sharma Oli government and installed an interim administration led by former Chief Justice Sushila Karki.
Government reduces excise on petrol, diesel by ₹10 per litre each to cushion pressure on OMCs
Seeking to cushion oil-marketing companies (OMCs) from the fiscal impact of skyrocketing benchmark oil prices amidst the escalating war in West Asia, the government, in an order dated March 26 (Thursday), reduced the Special Additional Excise Duty on petrol and diesel by ₹10 per litre each. This, in effect, has brought down the duty on petrol to ₹3 and on diesel to nil.
PM calls for ‘Team India’ effort in meet with CMs over West Asia crisis
