Delhi HC reserves judgment on Telegram’s plea challenging temporary ban ahead of NEET retest
The Delhi High Court on Thursday (June 18, 2026) reserved its judgment on the plea challenging a temporary ban on Telegram messaging platform ahead of the upcoming NEET-UG re-examination. This comes two days after the Centre’s decision to suspend access to the platform services in India until June 22, citing concerns linked to the conduct of the retest. In the hearing, the Centre said it has been repeatedly asking Telegram messaging app to take proactive measures to keep a check on illegal and suspicious channels. Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta submitted the Court that “nothing was done” about the matter.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan holds review meeting for NEET re-examination preparations
Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday (June 18, 2026) chaired a high-level review meeting of senior officials and functionaries of the Ministry of Education, State Governments, National Testing Agency (NTA) and Higher Education Institutions to assess the preparedness of the NEET UG re-examination scheduled to be conducted on June 21. Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, Sanjay Kumar; Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Vineet Joshi and Director General, NTA, Shri Abhishek Singh, also attended the meeting.
Government ratifies 8.25% EPF interest rate for FY’26, to be credited this month
The government has ratified 8.25% rate of interest on employees’ provident fund (EPF) deposits for 2025-26, which is likely to be credited to over seven crore contributing members this month. EPFO provides the rate of interest on EPF after it gets ratified by the government through the Finance Ministry. The finance ministry has given its concurrence to 8.25% rate of interest fixed by Central Board of Trustees (CBT), the apex decision making body of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), a source said on Thursday (June 18, 2026).
West Bengal moves Supreme Court against early release of 1993 Bowbazar blast convict
The West Bengal government on Thursday (June 18, 2026) approached the Supreme Court challenging a Delhi High Court order directing the release of Rashid Khan, who is serving a life sentence in the 1993 Bowbazar blast case that left 69 people dead in Kolkata. The State sought urgent intervention from the apex court to prevent his release. The counsel representing the State sought urgent listing of the matter before a Bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice V. Mohana, contending that the case involved a “very serious offence” and should be heard on Monday (June 22).
Governor’s address passes off smoothly as first session of 17th T.N. Assembly begins; House to meet for three days
