LPG price hiked by ₹29 per 14.2-kg cylinder

Domestic cooking LPG price has been raised by ₹29 per cylinder, marking the second increase in three months as state-owned fuel retailers continue to grapple with elevated global energy costs. The price of a 14.2-kg LPG cylinder in Delhi will rise to ₹942 from ₹913 with effect from June 7, according to industry sources.

Share of Russian oil in Indian imports rises to 38%, premium paid jumps 425% in April 2026

Russia’s share in the value of India’s oil imports jumped back up to an 11-month high of nearly 38% in April 2026 as India continued to increase its dependence on it against the backdrop of the ongoing West Asia crisis. This increasing dependence was accompanied by a 425% jump in the premium being charged by Russia for its oil, in contrast to the discount it had been offering until recently. Russia’s share stood at about 34% in terms of the volume of India’s crude imports in April 2026. At the same time, India’s dependence on oil from the U.S. fell to multi-month lows in terms of both value and volume. .  

More than 1,000 Indians deported from U.S. in 2026

“As many as 1,076 Indian nationals have been deported from the U.S. this year so far,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday (June 5, 2026), noting that the two sides are committed to acting against illegal migration. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said a total of 3,567 Indians were deported in 2025. “A total of 1,076 Indian nationals have been deported from the U.S. to India so far this year. During 2025, a total of 3,567 people were deported from the U.S.,” he said.

Right to travel abroad of accused must be balanced with victim’s right to speedy trial: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of India has held that the fundamental right to travel abroad, which comes under Article 21, cannot be viewed in isolation; rather, it needs to be balanced with the victim’s right to a speedy trial. A Division Bench comprising Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma set aside the order of the Telangana High Court, which permitted a businessman who is accused in a criminal case to travel to the U.S. for medical treatment. The case arose out of a complaint lodged in 2014 about the suspicious death of the complainant’s father, after which an FIR was filed against the businessman and others of criminal conspiracy and abetment of suicide under the Indian Penal Code.

CBSE extends Class 12 verification, re-evaluation application deadline till June 7

The CBSE on Friday (June 5, 2026) extended the last date for submission of applications for verification and re-evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets by one day, till June 7. The move comes after several students flagged issues in accessing answer books and applying for verification and re-evaluation on the CBSE’s post-result services portal launched on June 2. “In the interest of students, the CBSE has decided to extend the last date for submission of applications for verification and re-evaluation for the Class 12 board examinations, thereby providing students additional time and support to complete the process,” the board said in a post on X.
