IIM Calcutta Introduces AI‑Integrated Online MBA

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta is preparing to launch a groundbreaking AI‑first Online MBA, designed especially for working professionals who want to pursue management education without pausing their careers. The proposal will soon be placed before the institute’s Academic Council for approval.

Programme Highlights

Degree & Alumni Status: Graduates will receive the same MBA degree as the flagship on‑campus programme, along with full lifetime alumni status.

  • Blended Learning: Delivered via IIM Calcutta’s own online platform, with AI integrated across every discipline plus dedicated AI courses in both years.
  • Duration & Flexibility: Structured into six terms over two years, with the option to complete within three years. Includes 600+ hours of credit‑bearing instruction.
  • Curriculum:
    • Year 1 → Foundational management courses
    • Year 2 → Electives for specialisation in chosen areas
  • AI Labs: Three labs where student teams tackle live industry projects, presenting solutions to academic and industry experts.
  • Immersions:
    • Five campus modules at the Joka campus
    • Mandatory international immersion in Singapore (focus: sustainability or AI)
  • Leadership Coaching: A 24‑month executive coaching programme with periodic leadership assessments.

Admission Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of full‑time work experience (preference for 5+ years)
  • Valid CAT, GMAT, or GRE score, followed by a personal interview

Class Schedule

  • Proposed live online classes from Thursday to Sunday, enabling participants to continue full‑time employment while studying.

Why It Matters

Prof. Alok Kumar Rai, Director of IIM Calcutta, stated that the programme aims to extend the rigour of an IIM MBA to professionals who cannot leave their careers, while embedding artificial intelligence into management education.
