Asia Cup trophy not awarded to champions India after they refuse to accept it from ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi
Asia Cup champions Indian team on Sunday (September 28, 2025) refused to accept the winners’ trophy from ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who also happens to be Pakistan’s Interior Minister and chairman of the country’s cricket board. As Mr. Naqvi stood on one side for the presentation ceremony to begin, Indian players were standing within 15 yards, refusing to budge from their places and the formalities were being inordinately delayed.
BCCI to lodge protest against Naqvi after Asia Cup trophy presentation fiasco
Devajit Saikia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, has condemned the act of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi taking the Asia Cup trophy along with him from the dais after India declined to accept it from him. Mr. Saikia also confirmed that the BCCI will take up the issue in the next International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Board meeting in November.
Two civilians killed in Ladakh protests cremated amid curfew in Leh
The bodies of the two civilians, who were killed on September 24 during street protests in Ladakh, were cremated in Leh on Sunday (September 28, 2025), with only close relatives allowed to attend the last rites. A curfew was enforced for the fifth straight day. Officials said the last rites of the victims, Jigmet Dorjay, 25, a resident of Kharnakling village, and Stanzin Namgyal, 23, a resident of Igoo village, were held in Leh town between 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court will hear on Monday (September 29, 2025) afternoon a case to be filed by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) regarding the death of as many as 40 individuals during a campaign by its leader C. Joseph Vijay at Velusamypuram in Karur district on Saturday (September 27, 2025). A Dussehra vacation Bench of Justices M. Dhandapani and M. Jothiraman would hear the case since Karur district falls under the territorial jurisdiction of the Madurai Bench. The decision was taken following a mention made by TVK lawyer S. Arivazhagan at the residence of Justice Dhandapani in Chennai on Sunday (September 28, 2025).

Three Maoists carrying total bounty of ₹14 lakh gunned down in Chhattisgarh
Three Maoists carrying a cumulative bounty of ₹14 lakh were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district on Sunday (September 28, 2025), a senior police official said. The gun battle took place on a forested hill near Chhindkhadak village along the border of Kanker and Gariaband districts, where a joint team of security personnel was out on an anti-Maoist operation in the morning, Kanker Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Elesela told PTI.

Head of Mormon church Russell Nelson dies at 101
Russell Nelson, who headed the Mormon church since 2018, died on Saturday (September 28, 2025) night at age 101, the church announced. “With sorrow we announce that Russell M. Nelson, beloved President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, passed away peacefully... at his home in Salt Lake City,” it said in a statement, using the church’s official name. The former heart surgeon was “the oldest president in the history of the Church,” the statement added, without specifying a cause of death.
Mithun Manhas elected as new BCCI president, Amita Sharma to head women’s selection panel
Former Delhi captain Mithun Manhas has been elected as the new BCCI president on Sunday (September 28, 2025). Manhas was elected unanimously at the BCCI annual general meeting held in Mumbai. Manhas has become the 37th president of the Board, as he succeeded Roger Binny who resigned last month after turning 70.
