CBSE relaxes three language policy for Class 7, 8, 9; allows two foreign language options
The current batches of Classes 7, 8, and 9 who have already taken two foreign languages would continue with the same, with one additional native Indian language (Bhartiya Bhasha), revised guidelines issued by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) said. In a circular issued in May, CBSE had stated that students in Class 9 too will have to adopt the three-language policy where two of the three languages they learn should be native to India. Following this, parents of students who were learning foreign languages like French, German, Japanese, Spanish and so on, who were asked to switch mid-session, had protested at the abrupt switch.
Nasrapur minor rape and murder case: Court awards death penalty to 65-year-old accused
A Special Court in Pune district has sentenced Bhimrao Prabhakar Kamble, 65, to death for the rape and murder of a three-and-a-half-year-old girl in Nasrapur village of Bhor taluka. Special Judge S.R. Salunke pronounced the sentence on Monday (June 29, 2026), days after finding Kamble guilty on June 25. The incident occurred on May 1, 2026, in Nasrapur. The court convicted Kamble under multiple provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Ayodhya lawyers refuse to represent Ram Temple embezzlement accused
The Ayodhya Bar Association has refused to represent the accused in the Ram Mandir donation embezzlement case. In an emergency meeting called by the association on Monday (June 29, 2026), its president, Kalika Prasad Mishra, warned that any lawyer representing the accused will be fined ₹5 lakh. At the meeting, many advocates demanded that the former general secretary of the Ram Temple Trust, Champat Rai; trustee Anil Mishra; and the temple construction in-charge, Gopal Rai, leave Ayodhya within three days. The lawyers threatened to blockade the city and prevent the entry of people if the trio did not leave.
Delhi government clears EV policy: Electric cars under ₹30 lakh to be exempt from road tax, registration fees
All electric cars with an ex-showroom price of ₹30 lakh or less registered in the national capital will be granted 100% exemption on road tax and registration fees, as the Delhi government approved a new EV policy on Monday (June 29, 2026). Under the new policy, people buying e-two-wheelers will get a subsidy of ₹30,000 in the first year, ₹20,000 in the second year and ₹10,000 in the third year. As part of the policy, only electric autorickshaws will be registered in Delhi from January 1, 2027, while registration of new petrol and CNG two-wheelers will be phased out, with only electric two-wheelers to be registered from April 1, 2028.
Centre lifts restrictions on sale of petrol, diesel from July 1 amid easing supply situation
The Union government on Monday (June 29, 2026) evening removed all restrictions and caps on the sale of diesel and petrol in the country, effective July 1. That is, it removed the cap on the retail sale of diesel of 200 litres per consumer per day and removed the restriction on industrial consumers from purchasing fuel from retail pumps.
‘Direct threat to regional peace’: India condemns Pakistan air strikes on Afghan territory
India on Monday (June 29, 2026) strongly condemned Pakistan’s air strikes on Afghan territory in which several civilians were killed, calling them a “blatant act of aggression” and a “direct threat” to regional peace and stability. “It reflects Pakistan’s persistent pattern of reckless behaviour and its futile attempt to externalise internal failures through desperate acts of violence beyond its borders,” the MEA said.
West Bengal govt. to introduce Uniform Civil Code Bill soon
The West Bengal government will introduce a Bill in the Assembly in August to implement the Uniform Civil Code in the State, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said on Monday (June 29, 2026). Mr. Adhikari informed the Assembly that the State Cabinet will give its in-principle approval to the UCC on July 2.
As SIR begins, Karnataka govt. issues guidelines for permanent residence certificates
Ahead of the house-to-house enumeration for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to be taken up by the Election Commission of India in Karnataka on Tuesday (June 30, 2026), the State government notified guidelines to provide permanent residence certificates and domicile certificates. HDFC Bank names ex-Finance Secretary Rajiv Kumar as part-time chairman
The Board of Directors of HDFC Bank, at its meeting held on Monday (June 29, 2026), approved the appointment of former Finance Secretary Rajiv Kumar as an Additional Director (Independent Director) of the Bank for a period of four years, with effect from June 30, 2026. This decision was based on the recommendation of Governance, Nomination and Remuneration Committee.

This is going to be his last such remark,” Mr. Adhikari said on the floor of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. The Chief Minister said that three cases have been registered against the MLA — two at Rejinagar police station and one at Shaktipur police station.
