U.S. judge strikes down Trump’s $100,000 H-1B visa fee, calls it unlawful
A federal judge on Monday (June 8, 2026) struck down a $100,000 fee that U.S. President Donald Trump imposed on new H-1B visas for highly skilled foreign workers, concluding that it constituted an unlawful tax that Congress never authorised. U.S. District Judge Leo Sorokin in Boston issued the ruling in a lawsuit filed by 20 Democratic state attorneys general challenging a fee Mr. Trump announced in September that dramatically raised the cost of obtaining H-1B visas.
24 Indian sailors rescued from ship hit by U.S. missile
Twenty four Indian seafarers were rescued from tanker Marivex, a ship sanctioned by the U.S. for Iran links, off the south-eastern coast of Oman on Monday (June 8, 2026), after a U.S. missile strike. The sailors sent distress messages to a Forward Seamen’s Union of India (FSUI) office-bearer that the U.S. Navy had attacked the ship’s engine room. Audio messages purported to be from the seafarers to Manoj Yadav, general secretary of FSUI, received at 2 p.m.
BGB delegation arrives in India for border talks with BSF
The Director General (DG) of the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) arrived in Delhi on Monday to participate in the first round of the biannual DG-level talks with the Border Security Force (BSF). The talks, scheduled to continue till June 11, are taking place against the backdrop of tensions between the two border-guarding forces over allegations by Bangladesh that the BSF has been sending undocumented Bangladeshis across the border through multiple land entry points.

Trinamool Congress leader and Falta candidate Jahangir Khan arrested near Nepal border
The Special task force of West Bengal police on Monday (June 8, 2026) arrested Trinamool Congress leader and candidate from Falta Assembly seat Jahangir Khan. Mr. Khan who was wanted in several cases of Falta police station under Diamond Harbour has been arrested at around 1430 hours from Panitanki Bazar (near Nepal border) under Kharibari Police station by the special task force, West Bengal in a joint raid with Darjeeling Police team. He will be produced before the Court on Tuesday (June 9, 2026).

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in a post on X, on Monday (June 8, 2026), has stated that the application window for verification and re-evaluation remained fully functional throughout the notified period from June 2, 2026 to June 7, 2026. More than 1.6 lakh candidates successfully submitted requests pertaining to over 3.8 lakh answer books, reported the CBSE.
NEET-UG 2026 retest: IAF to transport question papers for June 21 medical entrance examination
The Indian Air Force (IAF) will transport the question papers for the retest of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG), 2026 medical entrance examination to be held on June 21, 2026, according to sources from the Ministry of Defence. The question papers will be transferred by the IAF to 18 locations across the country. It will then be transported securely to the different examination centres.

The Supreme Court has held that a consensual pre-marital relationship cannot, by itself, be viewed as a blemish on a person’s character, observing that authorities must be “sensitive” to changing social norms. A Bench of Justices Manoj Misra and Manmohan observed that while character verification remains an integral aspect of recruitment to disciplined forces, pre-marital relationships are common in contemporary society and cannot be used as a pretext to cast aspersions on a person’s character.
Allahabad HC upholds POCSO conviction; reaffirms child victim’s sole testimony sufficient if credible
The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday (June 3, 2026) upheld the life imprisonment of an accused convicted under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, reaffirming that the sole testimony of a child victim is sufficient to sustain a conviction if it inspires confidence. Iran ends military operations against Israel, warns of harsher attacks if strikes on Lebanon persist
Iran’s military command on Monday (January 8, 2026) announced it was halting its operation against Israel after the two sides exchanged fire for the first time since a truce took effect in April. Iran had delivered a “painful response” to Israel and “accordingly, the cessation of armed forces operations is hereby announced”, the Khatam al-Anbiya command said in a statement carried by state television. “However, it is emphasised that should acts of aggression and hostility continue, including in southern Lebanon, much more severe and crushing measures than before will follow,” it added.
United Nations urge Afghan Taliban to end arrests of women over dress rules
The United Nations (UN) mission in Afghanistan has expressed concern over the arrest and detention of women in a western province for allegedly failing to comply with “dress requirements” and urged Taliban authorities to treat all people equally. The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) did not specify how many women had been affected, though local media reported last week that at least 21 women and girls were detained in Herat province.
